Well, hello there
It’s us again! We know, you haven’t heard from us for a while. That’s because we’ve been working on some excellent stuff. Are you ready for a long, luscious newsletter?

Are you bored of your home yet, after those long lockdowns? Did you binge the entirety of Netflix? Time to switch things up. Feel the sea breeze. And run on the beach like a puppy. You can at Klepperstee, an excellent holiday park at the Dutch coast. Just book a weekend, or why not stay for an entire week? Choose a regular Wikkelhouse, or the new Wikkelhouse Bear. Bear is Wikkelhouse’s little brother. Everything happens in one room of 25 square meters, just like in a caravan. There’s room for up to five people to sleep, talk, cook, play music and philosophize. Everything’s there: from a compact kitchen to your own bathroom and shower. Curious? Just browse around and book a Wikkelaway.

We love to show you all the crazy stuff we’ve been working on. That’s why every last Friday of the month, we organize an Open Wikkelhouse at our Amsterdam HQ. During the Covid crisis, we’ve been doing this by appointment. Over these past strange months, we’re pleased to have welcomed over 150 friends to check out our factory and see what’s new. Our brand new Double Wikkel, for example. These Wikkelhouses believe twinning is winning. What’s more, they’re wearing a fancy new coat and have huge side windows. To top it all off, the houses are connected by a tunnel. A tunnel! Come and check it out and make an appointment.

Now that’s some crazy glue

Ever heard of tannin? No, it’s not a city. It has to do with biochemics. We’re big fans of biochemics. It’s simply the way to go if we want our planet to last. Chemicals are smart but dirty. Biochemicals are smarter and super clean. Tannin can be found in the bark of a tree. This tannin can be turned into resin, which makes our plywood bio-tastic. How? Hear us out. Plywood is made of thin layers of wood stacked, glued, and pressed on top of each other. This is mostly done with gross chemical glue. But hurray! We motivated our plywood manufacturer to make a truckload of tannin glue, especially for us. This doesn’t make our plywood 100% biobased yet, but we’re taking a huuuuge leap forward.

You know what we want whenever we’re in a Wikkelhouse? Roast marshmallows. And rock on a swing until we’re seasick. That’s why we collaborated with the good people of Weltevree. Weltevree is a Dutch design brand on a mission to create sustainable products that get people going. They focus on outdoor furniture and gear that’s all about creating experiences. We asked Weltevree to work with us on Wikkelveranda, a Wikkelhouse with a – you guessed it – veranda. This unique Wikkelhouse is furnished with amazing Weltevree pieces to roast those marshmallows and just have a really good time. Go check out Weltevree, or read all about our collaboration.

What’s a Wikkelhouse without furniture? Beautiful, but a little boring. Also, your back won’t appreciate sleeping on the wooden floor. That’s why we’ve filled our shop with sustainable brain twirls, like our Flipchair, which basically is two chairs for the price of one. Or Flipper, a great-looking sofa that’s moonlighting as a bed. Our products look excellent in non-Wikkelhouses as well. So come take a look and browse our minds. To the shop
