Happy to see you’re still here though, because a lot has happened ever since we launched a certain cardboard dwelling into this world. We’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of interest for Wikkelhouse and have worked hard trying to keep up with all the phonecalls, emails and requests we received from all over the world. It’s been quite a ride. A ridiculously exciting, joyous and humbling ride.

We built a Wikkelhouse class room for the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, a spectacular rooftop Wikkelhouse in London, a Wikkelhouse holiday home, a garden Wikkelhouse and are currently putting the finishing touches to 8 more Wikkelhouses.

We are developing a unique off-grid version of Wikkelhouse for Staatsbosbeheer, Holland’s national nature reserve organization.

We every so often gaze into nothingness wondering what we have done to deserve all this love.

In August this year we built and placed the first Wikkelhouse for Stayokay, a Dutch non-profit hostel organization. Stayokay’s Wikkelhouse is located at the edge of National Park ‘De Hollandse Biesbosch’ and a lovely retreat if you fancy spending a short break. Already our little house has gathered raving reviews. Also, we’re happy to announce that Stayokay has ordered five more Wikkelhouses for the coming years.

When we launched Wikkelhouse 6 months ago things soon got a bit crazy. First our online film went viral and was seen, liked and discussed by numerous people. Then came the press and an endless amount of features worldwide. One of our favourite reports came from Discovery Channel’s ‘How do they do it?’. If you’d like to learn more about the building process and the creative thinking behind Wikkelhouse this is must-see TV.

We get this question a lot. Yes, we only build 12 private houses per year. Next to this we do projects. Why in the world would you build only 12 private houses when demand is so high? Well, here’s why: Wikkelhouse is a house for you, which means that we want to give it all the attention it deserves. We treat each private Wikkelhouse as a one-off and work closely with you in making sure your new house suits all your needs. We know this is not how companies make the big bucks, but we’re not interested in the big bucks. We’re interested in the long run. So if you’re waiting for a Wikkelhouse, remember this: the basic units of time can all be perfectly divided by 12 and patience is a gorgeous virtue.
